August 2008 - THANK YOU

I would like to express a couple of thoughts prior to leaving on the last leg of the 850 mile walk.

There are a number of people that have been constant in their support as well as always offering encouragement. This is especially true when the delays, due to whatever reason, really began to wear on me. It seems at times that this walk was not meant to be. But after closer examination , it was meant to be, but it was not meant to be easy. With the support I have had, the difficult parts, the mental concern and worries, have pretty much settled. The physical aspect of this project is something that I know I can endure.

I have to point to those, like Jack Reis and Steve Smith who have been friends that I wish everyone could have. Their assistance and help have been as much of a compliment to this project as one could ask . Bert Markway and his wife, Mary Ann, have been a constant support at every turn. The support of Bill and Vickie Combs of Reading Pa., Dan and Cynthia Timmerman of Kirkwood, Missouri, along with just a host of people, has been the driving force from the beginning of this project. The list is long and at the completion of this project you will all know what a part you played in this project.

The website has been designed, maintained and updated by Roger Pheasant. Why this guy has not shot me I’ll never know, but his talent and desire to make this project a success has been outstanding. For the hours and concern Roger has offered I can only say thank you at this time. I owe him a great deal for his part.

My son, Matt has taken up a lot of the slack in our business with my time needed for this project. And my wife Margaret Ruth,” Margie”, has always been a trooper. For Matt’s and Margie’s support I can only say that you made this project possible as much as anyone.

Two other people that I have to mention. Funny, I have talked to the first guy on the phone, feel like I have known him all my life, never met him but look forward to the day I do. John Clark owns CNX Radio. It is a internet station in Connecticut. It is one of the best, if not the best, oldies station I have experienced. John’s radio station is dedicated to our troops. His generosity with air time and promotion has been awesome. Give his station a try, you’ll like it. Thank You John.

The second guy is Roger Walker from the Last Patrol in Central Illinois. Roger contacted me when he heard about the project and was really a very good person to work with. He has been on several walks to D.C. and his experience was a very big part of my preparing for this walk. Roger walked the first day with me out of Missouri into Illinois. On day two he and his wife Sandy provided my weary body transportation to the starting point and at days end to the metro link for my journey back home. This couple are troopers.

I hope to finish the walk by the end of August. August 2008 that is. I will think of all those that have had a part in making this walk happen. This walk is for all of you and my appreciation runs very deeply with undying gratitude, Thank You.
